AOSED works on climate change adaptation, water and environmental justice, sustainable livelihoods, and the rights of marginalized groups by combining community mobilization, advocacy, and evidence-based policy engagement at local, national, and international levels.

As a non-government, non-profit organization, Ashroy Foundation works on women’s rights, quality education, agriculture and food security, health, human rights, good governance, poverty alleviation and climate change adaptation, mainly across Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat and other coastal districts.

Association for Society’s Helpless (ASH Bangladesh) is a local non-governmental development organization working primarily swith disadvantaged rural and peri-urban communities. It has been involved in promoting quality education—especially science education in economically and geographically disadvantaged secondary schools—through student science clubs, leadership development, and advocacy with teachers and parents. ASH Bangladesh has also partnered with agricultural research institutions such as IRRI on projects for sustainable rice seed production and delivery systems in southern Bangladesh, contributing to improved rural livelihoods and food security.

Association of Voluntary Actions for Society (AVAS) is a non-government, non-profit, rights-based voluntary organization established in 1998 in Barisal, in the southern coastal region of Bangladesh. Badabon Sangho is a women’s rights and women-led organization working mainly in the southern coastal region of Bangladesh, particularly around Rampal, Mongla and the Sundarbans. It brings together lower-caste, Dalit, single mothers, widows, divorcees, religious minorities and other marginalized women to build their leadership and collective power. The organization focuses on women’s rights to land, water-bodies and natural resources, women migrant workers’ rights, feminist climate and environmental justice, and combating violence against women and girls through village-based women’s groups, federations, and advocacy networks.

BEDS is a community-based, non-profit, non-government organization committed to conserving ecological balance and creating harmony between humans and nature. Founded around 2010 and based in Khulna, it works mainly in environmentally fragile coastal and Sundarbans-adjacent areas on environment and ecosystems, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, clean/solar energy, sustainable livelihoods, gender, health, sanitation, and child and women’s rights. BEDS has implemented projects with local and international partners and has received several national and international awards, including the Energy Globe National Award and multiple Government Divisional Environmental Awards, in recognition of its innovative community-based environmental solutions.

The Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute (BORI) is a statutory organization under the Ministry of Science and Technology, located in Cox’s Bazar. As the country’s first and only national marine science research institute, BORI conducts multidisciplinary research in physical, geological, chemical, biological, and environmental oceanography, including climate change. It supports sustainable Blue Economy development through ocean research, environmental impact assessment, data management, policy support, capacity building, including national and international collaboration. BORI's work facilitates the responsible use and conservation of marine resources and contributes to national economic growth.

BARCIK is a non-governmental, non-profit development organization established in 1997 by a group of development practitioners, researchers, and social workers. CNRS is a non-government, non-political development and research organization in Bangladesh, established in the early 1990s from the Bangladesh Flood Action Plan (FAP-16) environmental study and formally launched in 1994. It is one of the country’s leading pro-environment NGOs, focusing on ecological management of floodplain and wetland ecosystems through community-based, participatory approaches. C3ER is a specialized research centre of BRAC University, established in 2011 to advance climate and environmental research in Bangladesh. C3ER works as a knowledge and policy hub—generating evidence, supporting national policy processes like NAP and NDCs, and building capacity of government officials, NGOs, youth, and researchers to craft sustainable and inclusive solutions.

CCSE at Jagannath University is a multidisciplinary research and resource centre dedicated to understanding and addressing the interactions between climate change, society, and the environment. Hosted by Jagannath University in Dhaka, it brings together researchers, students, and partners to work on climate resilience, environmental sustainability, and just transitions, often using tools like GIS, Earth observation, and GeoAI. CCSE conducts research projects, capacity-building activities, and public events to generate evidence for policy, support vulnerable communities, and strengthen Bangladesh’s response to the climate crisis.

Christian Service Society (CSS) is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged communities across Bangladesh. For the past 54 years, CSS has worked with commitment and integrity to serve people in need. Guided by compassion and accountability, CSS promotes human dignity through programs in health and hospital services, education and skills training, microfinance and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, social welfare, and community development. Its microfinance and enterprise initiatives help low-income households build assets, stabilize income, and reduce vulnerability. Working closely with government, donors, and civil society, CSS delivers practical, people-centred solutions that strengthen resilience and expand opportunities for women, children, and marginalized communities.

Climate Justice Forum – Bangladesh (CJF-Bangladesh)

Climate Justice Forum – Bangladesh (CJF-Bangladesh) is a national civil-society platform that brings together NGOs, academics, journalists, social movements and grassroots leaders to advance climate justice for vulnerable and climate-affected communities. The forum coordinates advocacy, research and campaigns on issues such as loss and damage finance, climate-induced displacement, and equitable access to climate funds. It organizes national consultations, public mobilizations in coastal and urban centres, and high-level engagements around UNFCCC COPs to push for compensation-based climate finance and to ensure that frontline community voices shape national and global climate negotiations.

Coastal Association for Social Transformation (COAST) Foundation is an independent, non-profit coastal NGO in Bangladesh that emerged in 1998 from a ten-year project on Bhola Island, one of the country’s most cyclone-prone areas. It works primarily with underprivileged coastal communities to promote sustainable livelihoods, social justice, and disaster-resilient development through microfinance, education, and community organization. COAST also engages in climate justice, advocacy, and humanitarian response—particularly in coastal and island districts and in Cox’s Bazar through networks such as the Cox’s Bazar CSO-NGO Forum (CCNF) and its advocacy wing EquityBD.

CDP is a national non-governmental, non-profit, public-interest and environmental activist organization working primarily in the coastal regions of Bangladesh. Established in 1997 out of grassroots efforts to address waterlogging and environmental injustice in the southwest coastal belt, it now supports people-led initiatives for peace, human security, climate resilience, and development justice. CDP combines advocacy, research, and community-based programmes on climate change, environmental justice, food sovereignty, sustainable agriculture, responsible aquaculture, and pro-poor environmental governance, working closely with marginalized coastal and indigenous communities as well as civil society networks.

Coastal Voice of Bangladesh is a network/platform of journalists dedicated to reporting on climate change and coastal issues in Bangladesh. By strengthening the skills and collaboration of coastal reporters, Coastal Voice of Bangladesh aims to bring frontline community experiences into national and global climate debates and to support evidence-based advocacy for climate justice.

Dalit is a non-governmental, non-partisan and non-profit organization established in 1998 by a group of young Dalit community members in southwest Bangladesh. It works for the socio-economic development, empowerment, and rights of Dalit and other socially excluded groups so they can meet their basic needs and live with dignity. Dalit focuses on reducing caste- and gender-based discrimination through education support, human rights advocacy, livelihood and health programmes, and by strengthening access to government services for marginalized communities in the Khulna region and beyond.

DORP is a national non-government organization established in 1987, working across different parts of Bangladesh to improve the lives of disadvantaged rural communities, particularly women and the poor. Born out of post-cyclone humanitarian efforts in coastal areas, DORP now implements a wide range of development programmes, with strong focus on health, Water–Sanitation–Hygiene (WASH), social protection, and poverty alleviation. It is widely known as the pioneer of the Maternity Allowance for Poor Mothers and the SAPNA Package (five basic rights) as an integrated model for reducing poverty and enhancing dignity.

DHRUBA is a local, women-led human development organization working with Dalit and other socially excluded communities in the southwest of Bangladesh, particularly in Khulna. Formally recognized in 2004, it focuses on reducing poverty, illiteracy, malnutrition, and human rights violations among asset-less and marginalized families, with special emphasis on women and children. Through awareness building, human rights advocacy, girls’ education, health and hygiene promotion, and livelihood support, DHRUBA strives to build a just society where Dalit and disadvantaged people can live in dignity, peace, and harmony.

GUK is a national, community-led NGO established in 1985 and headquartered in Gaibandha, one of the poorest and most disaster-prone districts in northern Bangladesh. It works with poor, extreme-poor, vulnerable and excluded groups—especially women, children, ethnic minorities and persons with disabilities—to bring about sustainable, positive changes in their lives through rights-based development. GUK now operates across multiple districts, including Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, implementing programmes on livelihoods, microfinance, climate resilience, disaster response, education, and local governance, guided by a transparent and accountable governance system.

Founded in 1998 and registered in 2005 (Reg: 119/2005), Humanitywatch is a Bangladeshi non-profit dedicated to the common good. Driven by volunteers, it empowers marginalized groups, including forest dwellers, indigenous communities, and climate migrants. The organization has donated over 10,000 bags of blood and provides critical disaster relief. Beyond immediate aid, it addresses systemic issues like waterlogging and unplanned development in the southwest coastal region. IRV is a rights-based development and research organization working mainly in the southwest coastal region of Bangladesh since 2008. It focuses on the social, economic, and democratic empowerment of disadvantaged and marginalized communities—particularly Indigenous and Dalit women, youth, and children—so they can claim their rights and improve their livelihoods. IRV works on environmental and climate justice, livelihood and agro-entrepreneurship, education, gender justice, governance, and humanitarian assistance, often using participatory action research and community organizing to strengthen local voices in policy and advocacy spaces.

Today, Islamic Relief Bangladesh works with vulnerable communities across multiple regions to reduce poverty and suffering through humanitarian response, climate and disaster resilience, sustainable livelihoods, WASH, child welfare, and social justice initiatives, guided by Islamic values of compassion and social responsibility.

LEDARS is widely recognized for its innovative community-based water solutions and climate-resilient technologies and has received several international awards, including the World Water Showcase Award (2015) and the Zayed Sustainability Prize in the Water category (2023).

LoCOS is a local development organization based in Batiaghata, Khulna, founded in 1998 by a group of committed social workers and development practitioners. It works mainly in Khulna, Bagerhat and Satkhira with poor and marginalized communities to improve livelihoods, food security, health, education and women’s empowerment through participatory, rights-based approaches. LoCOS is also active on climate and water justice issues in the southwest coastal belt, promoting sustainable resource management and supporting community initiatives such as canal re-excavation and managed aquifer recharge for safe drinking water in saline-prone areas.

Manob Sheba O Samajik Unnayan Shangstha (MSSUS) is a non-government, non-profit development organization based in Khulna, Bangladesh, working with disadvantaged and marginalized communities since 1998. It focuses on the rights and protection of women, children, youth, and other excluded groups through initiatives on human rights, gender justice, economic empowerment, free legal aid, awareness-raising, and good governance. MSSUS implements projects such as “Parayon” on the rights of women, children and lagging groups, and works as a partner of Manusher Jonno Foundation under the “Safe Home (COPE)” theme in Khulna to combat violence against women and children and strengthen protection mechanisms.
